Lundstrøm was a central figure in early Danish modernism, and several of his works are held in the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. In 1917, inspired by French Cubism, he introduced collage to Denmark, creating a series of geometrically abstracted woodblock assemblages known as "packing box pictures" (pak-kasse pictures). In his subsequent paintings, he explored new forms of expression. He studied under masters of art history, and was influenced by El Greco's dreamlike visions and Cézanne's figurative style, developing what is known as the "Kaald style." In his 1920 work "Frokost i det grønne," he quotes Manet's work of the same name. In his later years, he pursued a simpler, more geometric expression, forming "De Fire" (the quartet) with Sven Johansen, Axel Salt, and Carl Larsen. Focusing on still lifes, he determined forms with color planes while using spatial elements such as perspective, highlights, and shadows. However, he treated the elements themselves as forms with abstract value, keeping the space ambiguous. Lundström sought to convey "overview," "balance," and "openness" to an era that was chaotic, devastating, and lacking in unity. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1958 by Knud W. Jensen. For over 60 years since then, it has hosted exhibitions by world-renowned artists and consistently presented exhibition programs that resonate deeply with people. Known for its magnificent architecture and captivating atmosphere, the museum is recognized as one of the "most beautiful museums in the world." In Louisiana, there is a deep belief that "art should be open to all, and should offer experiences and visions that resonate with all."
