What is Alarm Therapy?
● The purpose of the training in this therapy is to have the child recognize the alarm (i.e., that they have wet the bed) as quickly as possible when they wet the bed. The purpose is not to wake them up to urinate when they wet the bed. Waking them up at random times while they are sleeping to urinate will have the opposite effect.
● By waking your child up every day with an alarm (sound or vibration) to remind them when they wet the bed, the amount of urine stored in the bladder will increase and the muscles in the urethra will become stronger. As a result, the amount and frequency of bedwetting will decrease, and the bedwetting time will gradually shift to the morning, until the child is able to hold it in until morning.
