The Moomin Origins series is designed using scenes extracted from Moominvalley in November and its predecessor, Moominpappa at Sea, the story that follows on from November.
These stories were written around the time that author Tove Jansson experienced the death of her mother, Signe, and both stories mark major turning points for the Moomin family.
The Moomin family leaves Moominvalley, where they have lived all their lives, and moves to an island with a lighthouse. Moominvalley in November depicts Moominvalley, the place the Moomin family left behind, and the friends who visit Moomin there.
His friends search for Moomin, but of course they are unable to find him and so they also leave Moominvalley.
And in the end, only Homsa Toft remains, waiting for the Moomin family in Moominvalley.
The "Origin" series expresses the loneliness and sadness that Homsa Toft experienced with natural, hand-drawn pen drawings.
