The M80 is a highly versatile microphone that offers performance comparable to a condenser microphone while being a dynamic microphone. It features a unidirectional polar pattern with a wide dynamic range and frequency response. The body is made with a rubber laminate to reduce handling noise, and the diaphragm produces an open, wide sound that maintains presence without getting buried in mixes. The key features of the M80 include a newly designed Roam's voice coil, an ultra-thin Mylar diaphragm, and a custom output transformer from AMI/TAB-Funkenwerk. This new diaphragm design converts electrical signals efficiently without sacrificing the tonal qualities that were lost with heavier diaphragms and voice coils. The output transformer from AMI/TAB-Funkenwerk adds a warm, vintage analog character with a present sound. The proximity effect in the bass is well controlled, making it an excellent choice not only for vocals but also for recording drums and bass. *The inner diameter of the microphone holder's screw socket is 5/8 inch.
