Kurume weave is primarily woven using a dobby weave on a wide-width loom. Dobby weaving refers to the device that opens and closes the warp threads on a loom. The more frames, the more complex the weave. It also allows for the use of multiple colors of weft threads. The arrangement of the threads and the way the reed is passed through the weave create unique surface variations and textures. (The reed is the part where the threads are spun.) Weaving requires skill, and our dobby weaves can be made with up to 20 frames, allowing for a wide variety of patterns.

A Winter Essentials
This front-opening hanten jacket keeps you warm. Its long length keeps you cozy and protected from the cold. The outer fabric is made with Kurume weave (a dobby weave created by opening the top and bottom of a heki frame, or so-called "sokou-ra" frame), which allows for a warm, snug fit. The cotton material prevents static electricity and provides a comfortable, close-to-skin feel.
