Product Introduction
■What is Mousen?
Mousen is a felt-like cloth placed under festival dolls or on the base of a tiered display.
It is customary to use red for Hina dolls and green for May dolls.
We have created Mousen in colors that complement modern interiors.
■Dolls + TATAMI-BERI
The tatami border used in our Mousen is made at a factory in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, a textile town established over 130 years ago.
The fabric is woven with a durable blend of synthetic fibers and painstakingly crafted by skilled artisans.
Tatami-beri Mousen, characterized by its traditional yet beautiful colors and delicate, modern patterns, elegantly adorns any doll, regardless of its Japanese or Western aesthetic.
■Small Diamond Pattern, a Pray for Health and Well-Being
Small diamond patterns are woven into the 8cm-wide tatami border.
The diamond pattern is said to have its roots in the shape of the leaves of the water chestnut plant. Because of its thriving growth, it symbolizes prosperity and good health.
It is also known as a "Yusoku pattern" (court pattern) because it was used on the costumes of "intellectuals" such as aristocrats, court nobles, and scholars during the Heian period.
It is a popular pattern for Shichi-Go-San kimono, a celebration of nobility and elegance.
